How to celebrate New Year in a pandemic-free area?

The New Year is fast approaching and no one will indeed miss 2020. This year has turned out to be disastrous in every way. We have seen the death of nature in wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and the death of the human race by the millions due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

No one will miss it, but we will always remember it as the worst year for planet Earth. With that, let's happily say goodbye and get ready for next year, 2021. And we know you're all desperately waiting for 2020 to end, and with it the bad luck it has brought us. No matter how satisfying the number 2020 was, it didn't help us much.

Unfortunately, our New Year celebrations will no longer look like anything. The ball drops in Times Square, the fireworks and the party all night like there's no tomorrow. Not this year, but what will it look like anyway? How different will things be now?

Places under strict lockdown have canceled their annual New Year's Eve celebrations, but what about places where restrictions are eased a bit and people can go out but respect all safety rules and precautions.

For anyone living in a pandemic-free area, there are countless ways to celebrate the New Year; all you have to do is be a little creative and wise when planning the night.

Safety first

No matter what you plan to do, your safety and the safety of others always comes first. Despite obtaining the green ticket from the authorities, the Covid is not entirely cured; it can come back with even the smallest errors.

Always maintain your distance from strangers or people you know are neglecting to follow proper SOP guidelines. The same goes for people who actively go to crowded public places like malls, restaurants, pubs, etc.

Wear your masks and keep an alcohol-based sanitizer with you. If you find someone without a mask, leave that place immediately or provide them with one.

Celebrations

Now comes the actual party part. Getting drunk, dancing on the floor with crazy lights is not always the right idea for a party, especially now when you have to be sensible and vigilant in public gatherings.

Our party events may be different than usual, but they are efficient, safe and fun.

1. Open-air theater and fireworks

Who says you can't party without booze, booming music and funky disco lights? You just need your friends, a good plan and yourself to organize a big gathering, and what better than an outdoor movie with a huge bonfire in the middle, a comfortable seating area, crazy snacks and, of course, social distancing.

Pick the best family movie on Disney Plus because it caters to all types of kid-friendly content. Test everything beforehand to avoid any mistakes, and avoid embarrassment. Disney Plus isn't available everywhere, so make sure you have a VPN for Disney Plus if you live abroad. Then relax and enjoy the movie under the stars, and end the year with a little fireworks at home.

2. Improvised drive-in cinema

If you want to take things a notch higher, now is the time. Gather everyone in your town and convert an empty schoolyard into a drive-in movie theater. This idea will be a hit in areas where the nights are slightly cooler. Turn up the car heat and enjoy the movie while practicing social distancing. End the film and with fireworks in the background, bidding farewell to the traumatic year.

3. Candlelight Vigil

If we look at it from another angle here, this year has been nothing short of a trauma, where millions of lives have been lost in the battle against Covid. This includes frontline unsung heroes who have been actively playing their part in the fight against covid. Doctors, nurses, volunteers, security guards and even grocery store workers are actively working to provide an indefinite cure for the deadly disease.

All of these heroes deserve to be remembered and their sacrifices should be honored. If you want to celebrate, celebrate them with a candlelight vigil. An ode to those who were and still are on the front line, and to all those who are no longer. And pray that the New Year brings much positivity and luck into all of our lives.

At the end

It's all about perspective and privilege. Many places are still struggling to maintain daily case counts, while others have removed all restrictions in their countries. All we need to do instead of celebrate wildly is show empathy for those in need and a tribute to all the essential workers who are risking their lives to end it once and for all.
