Dexter's revival series, New Blood, has been available on Canal+ and MyCanal since December 16, 2021. While it has received excellent reviews from viewers, will it be entitled to a season 2?
Eight years after the final episode of Dexter, Internet users' most beloved serial killer is finally back. The new series Dexter:New Blood has a total of 10 episodes. It is supervised by Clyde Phillips, who was already the showrunner for the first four seasons. But beware, this is not the ninth season of Dexter! The producer and showrunner of the series had already made it known before its release that it was more of a mini-series or a reboot rather than a final season:
And the least we can say is that the series has delighted viewers! On Allociné, it receives an average rating of 4.3/5 with 438 ratings. A more than respectable score. So, Dexter:New Blood will it have the right to a second season?
This new series has 10 episodes of 55 minutes each. The events she recounts take place 10 years after the end of season 8 of Dexter and stretch over two weeks.
In Dexter:New Blood , Dexter Morgan lives in Iron Lake, New York. He leads a quiet existence there under a new identity. The former Miami police forensic expert, however, sees his daily life turned upside down when a series of unexpected events come to wake up his Dark Passenger and disturb his routine.
While Dexter has been well-behaved for a decade and has put his hobby as a serial killer on hold, he remains the same troubled man. To the delight of fans, the hero of the series is still played by Michael C. Hall. This one fits perfectly into the skin of Dexter, and reminds fans why they loved the series so much.
The first episodes of Dexter:New Blood take us back into the atmosphere of the original series. While Dexter, aka Jim Lindsay, has installed a daily routine in order to curb his murderous impulses, things take a turn for the worse when his now-teenage son Harrison resurfaces.
The serial killer who marked an entire generation had abandoned him when he was a child, with his new partner Hannah McKay. As she died of pancreatic cancer, the child was placed in the care of the foster care system.
With the return of Harrison, the new series of Dexter gives pride of place to father-son relationships. Will the latter follow in his father's footsteps, when his own biological mother had been murdered before his eyes when he was a baby? How will he impact the life of his father, who lasted 10 years without killing anyone? Questions answered by Dexter's revival.
Dexter is a mythical fictional character, which will have marked the minds of many fans. The final proposed in season 8 of Dexter had, as such, disappointed many people. This is undoubtedly one of the most controversial end of series of the last ten years.
Many fans of the series adapted from Jeff Lindsay's novels had indeed cried foul when Dexter left Florida to go cut wood on the other side of the country. A disappointing ending, which opened the door to the imminent return of the famous serial killer.
As Dexter transported us under blue Miami skies, Dexter:New Blood installs us this time under the snow of the northeastern United States. This is one of the big differences between this series and the one that preceded it. Aside from the switch from linen shirts to down jackets, Dexter:New Blood is surprisingly faithful to the Dexter of yesteryear.
Dexter:New Blood therefore aims at the fans, and tries to rectify the situation about past mistakes. The return to the helm of Clyde Phillips, showrunner of the first four seasons of Dexter, is also not for nothing. It promised to give fans a much better season ending than the Season 8 finale, and it did quite well, if viewer feedback is to be believed.
That being said, those unfamiliar with Dexter's original adventures may also find interest in the new series. But they risk missing a large number of references, and not necessarily understanding everything about the past of Dexter, who now calls himself Jim Lindsay.
The Dexter:New Blood series is broadcast on Canal+ with 2 episodes every Thursday evening and available on MyCanal since December 16, 2021, with one episode every Monday. Episode 9 was unveiled on Monday January 3 and the final episode of the mini-series will be released next Monday, January 10.
Inevitably, as the series finale approaches, this question torments fans:Dexter:New Blood will it stop at this one season, or will it have a sequel? For the moment, no information has been communicated by the film crew.
At the risk of disappointing though, keep in mind that Dexter:New Blood is not the ninth season of Dexter, but a mini-series taking up the story of the anti-hero and his environment. It is quite rare for a mini-series to have a sequel, and there is little chance that this one breaks the rule...
However, given the success of the series in terms of audience and reviews, everything is possible ! And if no announcement has come in this direction, the door is not closed for a sequel either… Case to follow, therefore. We'll be sure to let you know if our favorite serial killer returns to the screen!
