The Call of Duty series has many eras over the years, from the Cold War to the distant future. But when is the new game, Call of Duty:Vanguard, ready? We have the answer here.
We're getting ever closer to the release of Call of Duty:Vanguard, and fans can't wait to get their hands on Sledgehammer's next shooter.
As always, one of the most intriguing parts of the new game is how it will play out again for a historical setting.
The time frame that Call of Duty is set to always has a huge impact on the campaign and multiplayer, so when is Call of Duty:Vanguard?
While we don't have a specific timeline for when the events of Vanguard's campaign will unfold, we do know that the game is set in the WWII era. . This places it somewhere between September 1, 1939 and September 2, 1945 .
The campaign focuses on the rise of special forces during World War II, covering four fronts of the war – the Pacific Front, the Western Front, the Eastern Front and North Africa.
Prior to release, it's impossible to say whether the story will span the full span of the conflict or take place in a smaller pocket of time.
Vanguard will also take some liberties with what we already know to be true about the timeline. Masse has said in the past that the story is "rooted but not beholden" to the actual events of World War II.
This was highlighted recently when a viral TikTok pointed out that the game featured red dot sights, which were only introduced 30 years after the war ended. With that in mind, it's also possible that Vanguard's version of WWII doesn't exactly match the actual historical dates.
That's not to say the game won't be historically accurate. Dave Swenson, the campaign's creative director, said the team looked into true "reverse battles" during development.
We'll have to wait until we get our hands on Call of Duty:Vanguard to find out exactly when it's set in WWII, but we'll be sure to update you once we get it.
