With the battle royale genre dominating the mobile market, esports tournaments from titles such as COD Mobile, PUBG Mobile, and Free Fire have seen tremendous growth. Tournaments with big prize pools have become the new norm with gambling houses investing a lot of money.
The world of mobile gaming and esports has been growing rapidly over the past two years. This year, Activision has again announced its COD Mobile World Championship 2021 powered by Sony.
The company has announced the world championship for its popular Call of Duty Mobile title, called COD Mobile World Championship 2021, with a massive prize pool of $2 million. This huge prize money will be distributed between the participants of the regional qualifiers and the finalists of the world championship.
The tournament, organized in collaboration with popular tech giant Sony, will begin on June 3, 2021.
The tournament will be split into 5 stages with players starting Solo and eventually forming teams to try and qualify for the World Championship Finals. The steps are as follows:
Step 1 – Solo Play: In single player mode, players will have to compete in ranked mode. Players will need to earn a total of 60 points in 10 games over one of four weekends. Solo Play is required to progress to the second stage of the tournament.
Step 2 – Team Play: Stage 1 players will form teams in Team Play. These teams will need to complete 30 ranked matches together and earn points to climb the overall rankings. At the end of this stage, the 256 highest ranked teams will qualify for Stage 3.
Step 3 – Regional Qualifications: The stage will be hosted on GameBattles and will feature an elimination-style bracket format. The best performing teams will qualify for the fourth stage.
Stage 4 – Regional Qualifiers: The best qualified teams from the third stage will compete in their respective regional playoffs. The regional playoffs will also be held in a bracketed playoff-style format. The winners of each of the regional play-offs will qualify for the World Championship finals.
Stage 5 – COD Mobile World Championship 2021 Finals: Qualified teams from around the world will compete in the COD Mobile World Championship 2021 Finals to fight for the ultimate glory and prize pool.

Activision has asked fans and gamers of the title to stay tuned for more information regarding format details and prize distribution. Fans will also have the chance to win in-game rewards. According to Activision, details on this will be announced at a later stage.
With the COD Mobile World Championship 2020 Finals canceled due to the COVID 19 pandemic and the prize pool evenly distributed among the teams, Activision is hoping for a smooth ride in the 2021 World Championship.
