Anil Stevenson Jangam, a lawyer residing in Hyderabad, had filed a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) with the Telangana High Court seeking a ban on the immensely popular game, Battlegrounds Mobile India. In his PIL, the man had stated that BGMI is extremely similar to PUBG Mobile which was banned in 2020. The PIL stated-

"BGMI and the banned application PUBG Mobile are the same game with only cosmetic changes. The new application Battlegrounds Mobile India is fraught with all the dangers its banned earlier version posed to our children and adolescents. Therefore, the new version also deserves to be banned. "

The lawyer also said that Tencent was trying to enter the country through front companies and was directly threatening India's security. The Hyderabad man believes the High Court should immediately take action to regulate online gambling and alert the central government about it.

On the other hand, N. Samaya Balan who is the representative of MEITY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) replied that PUBG Mobile and IMC (Battlegrounds Mobile India) are different from each other. In addition to this, the Central Ministry has also informed Telangana HC that it has not received any requests to ban the game.

It should be mentioned here that this is not the first time that some authorities have wanted gambling to be restricted in the country. The game has received mixed responses and even the CAIT (Confederation of All India Traders) has called for the game to be banned. A few days ago, an Assam-based NGO made a similar request to the central authorities.
