The Crunchyroll streaming service has long been a great destination for anime fans to get their fix of all the latest and greatest shows.
Now the service, which was owned by AT&T as part of the WarnerMedia acquisition in 2018, is launching two new paid subscription tiers that offer additional features.
For many people, Crunchyroll is a great resource for free, legal, and ad-supported anime streaming.
Devoted fans can sign up for a $7.99/month premium subscription, which offers an ad-free experience and features new shows as soon as they debut in Japan (and a week before free users can watch them).
These levels aren't going anywhere and are still great options for anime fans on a budget. Additionally, Crunchyroll has a library of over 1,000 shows, consisting of 30,000 individual episodes, so there's plenty to watch and enjoy.
Now, Crunchyroll has announced the introduction of two new bounty tiers in the US:Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan .
Big fan will cost $9.99/month and includes the added benefits of offline viewing, access to four simultaneous streams, and a discount at the Crunchyroll Store.
Ultimate Fan will cost $14.99/month. It includes all of the above except six simultaneous streams, plus the added bonuses of an annual loot bag and access to purchase exclusive member merchandise.
While these two new tiers are US-only, Crunchyroll is also reaching out to international subscribers with new plans detailed at Crunchyroll.com.
Crunchyroll has 3 million paid subscribers, thanks to raffling off shows like One Piece, Black Clover, and Naruto:Shippuden.
Which is a big number for such a specialized streaming service. However, it is overshadowed by Netflix and Amazon, which offer a wealth of third-party and original anime content.
Plus, some of the new features locked behind Crunchyroll's higher membership tiers, like offline viewing and streaming across multiple devices, are standard elsewhere.
With rumors that AT&T would like to sell Crunchyroll to Sony for around $1.5 billion, the telecommunications giant hopes to attract as many new paying members as possible to make the purchase more attractive to Sony.
Crunchyroll was founded in 2006 and has over 70 million registered users worldwide. And it's a great place to watch anime.
Of course, this is not the only service available. Others, like Funimation, will surely be watching closely how Crunchyroll's new membership tiers pay off.
