Attending the screenings organized at the Cannes Film Festival, a Holy Grail for all film lovers. Except that an individual can hardly access these films without being accredited. Several steps must be taken to obtain this famous badge issued by the Cannes Cinéma association.
Object of all dreams and desires, the Cannes Film Festival is one of the most famous cinematographic events in the world. The most famous actors, directors and other protagonists of the cinema meet there to walk the famous red carpet of the Croisette. This universe of rhinestones and sequins seems inaccessible to ordinary mortals. Cinema enthusiasts in particular imagine that they cannot attend the screenings organized during the festival. And yet, it is quite possible to discover the Cannes program thanks to the Cannes Cinéphiles event on the initiative of the Cannes Cinéma association.
Through Cannes Cinéphiles, 4000 accreditations are granted and allow you to discover the selections offered at the Cannes Film Festival. The latter revolves around several events, the most important of which is the Official Selection. Other sections exist such as Un Certain Regard, Cannes short film, Cannes Classics, Cinéma de la plage, Critics' Week or the Directors' Fortnight.
To obtain this famous accreditation, it is necessary to register on the Cannes Cinéma website. Among the documents requested are, among other things, a cover letter, a photo ID and above all, a document certifying that the applicant is a cinephile. Because it should be known, only people who are really keen on cinema and who can justify it can claim accreditation. A film club membership card or a cinema subscription, for example, is required.
For those who have not managed to get their accreditation, all is not lost. It is still possible to attend the screenings thanks to the “last minute queue” available in the Cannes Cinéphiles rooms. Thus, non-accredited people have free access if places are still vacant. But to avoid any unpleasant surprises, it should be noted that here, priority is always given to accredited members. If there are no more queuing, only then can the unaccredited enter. Another thing:minors cannot benefit from it. However, there are Cannes Ecrans Junior screenings dedicated to them.
In addition, at the Les Arcades cinema and in the theater of the JW Marriott, tickets are on sale to allow individuals to discover the Directors' Fortnight. This event born under the impetus of the Society of Film Directors is a parallel selection originally created to unveil cinematographic works imagined by unknown filmmakers. The event revealed a number of talents, to name only Spike Lee, Ken Loach and Georges Lucas.
Finally, non-accredited people can also attend Critics' Week by requesting their invitation from Espace Miramar, which screens the films. Access depends on the places available. This event aims to reveal young talents and new filmmakers in the world.
