With the death of Gaspard Ulliel, French cinema has just lost one of its most talented actors. Caesarized, he had appeared in various successful films and series, available on the main VOD services.
The year is not starting in the happiest of ways for French cinema. This Wednesday, January 19, it is with sadness that we learn of the death of Gaspard Ulliel . Victim of a skiing accident, he finally succumbed to his injuries today. Talented, the actor had crossed the borders of France and will even appear, post-mortem, in the Disney+ series Moon Knight in March. But he has also shown his acting talents in other films and series that can already be viewed on Netflix, Prime Video and other consorts . Here are some examples.
In 2001, Gaspard Ulliel played the role of Louis in Le pacte des loups , a clearly underrated film. Directed by Christophe Gans, the film revisits the myth of the Beast of Gévaudan through a grandiose feature film, which has nothing to envy to a Hollywood blockbuster . The design of the costumes is so particular that the legend says that a certain Hidetaka Miyazaki was inspired by it to design the hunters of Bloodborne (in our humble opinion this is more than just an inspiration).

In 2016, Xavier Dolan released Just the end of the world . Gaspard Ulliel, who in the meantime has become a known and recognized actor, plays the role of Louis (decidedly). The pitch of this drama?A writer returns to his native village and announces to his family that he is going to die . Naturally, the news agitates his relatives and revives some tensions. For the anecdote, in the film, Gaspard Ulliel gives the reply to Vincent Cassel, with whom he has already played in... Le pacte des loups .

Gaspard Ulliel had the lead role in Saint Laurent, a Bertrand Bonello biopic released in 2014. This film is not to be confused with Yves Saint Laurent , another biopic, released a few months earlier, in which the great couturier is played by Pierre Niney. The latter has just paid tribute to the deceased actor in a moving tweet .

In 2007, as his popularity was growing, Gaspard Ulliel starred in Jacquou le Croquant . He then played alongside Jocelyn Quivrin, another actor who died in full youth. Directed by Laurent Boutonnat, this film takes place in the 19th century and traces the life of Jacquou, a man seeking revenge for the unjust death of his family .

More recently, in 2021, Gaspard Ulliel starred alongside Freya Mavor in Once upon a second time , a French mini-series. Cut into 4 episodes, this one tells the story of a thirty-year-old trying to win back his former girlfriend. Through a screenplay, he comes across a mysterious object allowing him to go back in time . Is there a better way to get a second chance?

Even more recently (in fact the show hasn't even come out yet), Gaspard Ulliel starred in Moon Knight . This Marvel series, whose first trailer has just been released (coincidence of the calendar), will revolve around the character of an employee suffering from personality disorders. This time, it's Oscar Isaac who has the main role, and his character will have to face The Midnight Man:a villain played by Gaspard Ulliel. Gaspard Ulliel will be dubbed by himself in the French version.
Moon Knight will be released on Disney+ on March 30.
