Netflix is currently preparing a feature film that promises to be the most terrifying, based on one of the latest stories published by Stephen King.
At a time when the South Korean series Squid Game smashes all audience records on Netflix, the streaming platform continues to multiply projects, each more enticing than the next. Latest example, a feature film adaptation of one of the latest short stories by the very famous horror author Stephen King, Mr. Harrigan's Telephone , published in early 2021 in his latest collection, If it bleeds .
At a time when most VOD platforms are launching all-out pharaonic productions (The Lord of the Rings on Amazon or Foundation on Apple TV+ to name a few), Netflix therefore continues to bet on Stephen King.
Indeed, the feature film Mr. Harrigan's Phone (in VO) will be nothing less than the author's fourth adaptation by the streaming service, after Jessie , 1922 and more recently In the Tall Grass .
What we know about the story:A small-town boy named Craig strikes up an unexpected friendship with Mr. Harrigan, an elderly, reclusive billionaire, because of their shared love of literature. But when the old man dies, Craig soon discovers that he is able to communicate with the deceased, thanks to the iPhone that accompanied him to the grave...
As for the distribution of this feature film which looks very promising, Netflix has bet on the famous Donald Sutherland (Hunger Games , The Great Escape , The Dirty Dozen ...) to play the role of Harrigan. The young Craig will be played by Jaeden Martell, already seen in particular in At Knives Out , Midnight Special , and... the two hit horror films That and It:Chapter 2 .
Finally, director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side , The Founder ) who will take place behind the cameras. The film is scheduled for release in 2022 on Netflix.
