While Internet users are recovering from the events of the first season of Squid Game, the director of the series evokes some elements concerning his sequel.
Squid Game has just been released and the Web has been talking about it for two weeks. Difficult to avoid spoilers, especially when your colleagues, spouses or other members of your entourage can not help but talk about this viral series. And while the first season was massively binge-watched on Netflix , Hwang Dong-hyuk, the screenwriter and director, is already talking about the sequel…
Don't worry if you haven't seen the 9 episodes:the creator of the series does not mention the twists and turns of the last episodes! Interviewed by Variety, Hwang Dong-hyuk rather focused on the technical aspect of the realization .
The opportunity for him to come back to the difficulties he encountered during the design of the first season. “I'm not very good at teamwork ”, he admitted, before adding that he was trying to change the way he worked.
According to him, making Squid Game was a long and stressful process . For now, Squid Game season 2 doesn't have a definitive script (if it has a script at all), but for Hwang Dong-hyuk, one thing is certain:“If I had to do a sequel, I wouldn't do it alone . I would consider having a team of screenwriters and surrounding myself with several well-known directors .”
As mentioned, the realization of the first season of Squid Game was not done without pain. “At first I was drinking half a bottle of Soju [Editor's note:a Korean alcohol] so that the juice of creation sinks into me. I can't do this anymore. ”
And the Squid Game dad added:“Writing the script was more difficult for me as it was a series and not a movie. It took me six months to write and re-write the first two episodes .”
If building a shock team allows him to work more calmly AND to achieve a second season more quickly, a priori, everyone will come out a winner!
