Owners of Vizio SmartCast TVs in the United States and Canada can now use the Apple TV app. Finally.
Plus, for a limited time, they can get a three-month trial of Apple TV+.
If you're in the US or Canada and have a Vizio TV that supports SmartCast, you can now use the Apple TV app.
Vizio TVs are generally considered entry-level sets with a reasonable value compared to Samsung or Sony.
The Apple TV app gives you access to all the rentals and purchases you've made through the platform, as well as the ability to stream Apple TV+ with a subscription.
You can also use the Apple Channels feature to access premium networks such as CBS All Access, Showtime, and Starz.
If you own a Vizio SmartCast TV with SmartCast Home from 2016 or later, you can also get a free three-month trial of Apple TV+. But only if you are a new user.
If you have an eligible Vizio TV, you should see the Apple TV app on your SmartCast home screen.
All you need to do is enter your Apple ID account details. If you don't have one, you will be prompted to create an account.
The Apple TV app is available for free, but the Apple TV+ streaming service comes with a monthly cost of $4.99 which can be canceled at any time.
Apple is slowly expanding the availability of its Apple TV app. Of course, you can use it on Apple products like iPhone, iPad and Mac. However, while traditionally Apple has kept its doors closed, the app is also available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and select Samsung and LG TVs.
This isn't the first Apple feature coming to Vizio TVs. The TVs also support HomeKit, a smart home appliance control framework, and Apple AirPlay 2, which lets you mirror your iOS device to a TV.
