How to restrict YouTube kids to approved channels only

Key new features recently announced by YouTube will make it easier to trust that your kids won't stumble into something they shouldn't:

• Search: YouTube Kids has always made it possible to turn off the search feature in the app. But now turning off search will also limit videos watched on YouTube Kids to channels that have been verified by the app team.
• Collections: YouTube is making it possible for parents to choose from curated collections. Collections are created by the YouTube Kids team and its partners, which include PBS Kids and Sesame Street programming.
• Full Parental Control: And most important of all, although it hasn't been implemented yet, later this year, parents will be able to personally choose each video and channel their children on the app.

To change the settings available in the YouTube Kids app, do the following:

1. From any app screen, tap Lock button in the lower right corner.
2. Enter the security password, either your own custom password or the numbers shown on the screen.
3. Tap Settings .
4. Tap the profile you want to restrict.
5. You are about to turn off Allow Search and activate Only approved content .
6. When you toggle on Approved content only, a window will open asking you to select the collections you want your children to see.

If you're installing the YouTube Kids app for the first time, you'll also have the option to turn off search during setup.
